Ayo Dalgety-Dean wins prestigious Commonwealth Points of Light award

Ayo Dalgety-Dean became the 176 th recipient of the prestigious Commonwealth Points of Light
award for her inspirational volunteerism in the 54-member states grouping, the Commonwealth.
Dr. Vindhya Persaud, Minister of Human Services and Social Security, presented the founder of
Blossom Inc the award signed my Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II at a recent ceremony hosted
by Ms. Jane Miller, British High Commissioner to Guyana.
Blossom Inc has supported 134 children and their families in legal matters and enabled
continuous case reviews and tracking of cases through the police, judiciary and court systems.
www.aroundtheregion.com understands Blossom Inc also successfully tracked 473 cases and
conducted 86 Forensic Interviews in hard-to-reach communities.
As a non-governmental organisation (NGO), Blossom Inc also supports children who have
suffered sexual abuse or trauma and are provided psychological counselling and support with the
judicial process.
From September 2020 to March 2021, the British High Commission supported the local NGO to
help strengthen Child Advocacy Centres and Sexual Offences Courts in Guyana as part of the
COVID-19 response, resulting in 1,638 virtual psychosocial support sessions and 261 in-person
therapy sessions.
The British High Commission support has also enabled training of professionals in Forensic
Interviewing of Children, and backed purchasing of vital supplies for Child Advocacy Centres
and the Courts to support virtual platforms and remote participation in court matters.
The Commonwealth Points of Light is a continuation of the UK Prime Minister’s Points of Light
programme which is a special series of awards made by Her Majesty The Queen, as Head of the
grouping of former British colonies.
