ANSA McAL donates 100 tablets to MoE

On Wednesday, ANSA McAL Group of Companies through the ANSA McAL Foundation donated 100 Amazon Fire tablets to the Ministry of Education.

During the simple handing over ceremony at her Brickdam Office, Minister, Hon. Priya Manickchand announced that the tablets will be utilised as part of a hinterland pilot programme.

“These will go mainly to hinterland children where we are doing a pilot with the students who will be writing CSEC in 2021. These will not only allow them to be taught by teachers on the coast but also have access to support material which will be uploaded onto the tablets,” she explained.

The Education Minister also lauded the company for its commitment to meeting community needs.

“When these get into the hands of children and they are going to be able to benefit from it and that can be life changing and so we thank the Foundation for hosting the fundraising in the first place and for having Guyana as a part of its beneficiary,” Minister Manickchand said.

The company established a special One Caribbean Future Fund where donations from the “ONE YARD’ virtual regional benefit concert are put towards providing technology to support home-based learning throughout the region.

Other Caribbean countries to have benefited from this exercise are Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, St Kitts and Nevis, Jamaica and Barbados. The company said its aim is to assist Caribbean nations who have been struggling with the effects COVID-19 has had on the education sector

Managing Director of ANSA McAL Guyana, Mr. Troy Cadogan expressed satisfaction on behalf of the company to be able to fulfil part of its corporate social responsibility.

Also present at the handing over was ANSA McAL Foundation laureate, Dr. Paloma Mohamed.
