THE RECENTLY-LAUNCHED NEW GUYANA MARKETING CORPORATION (NGMC)
Agri-Business Development Incubator at La Bonne Intention (LBI) will drive the country’s agro-
processing ambitions, General Manager, Ms. Teshawana Lall believes.
Lall said since there is now a central location, agro-processors will get help completing and
processing all the necessary documentation for the field from experienced supporting agencies
and this will speed up the time it takes to complete critical documents.
Chairman of the NGMC, Mr. David Fernandes highlighted the triple function of the facility in
the value chain.
“Noteworthy is the fact that today’s ceremony is targeting three very important steps in the value
chain; extension, transportation, and agro-processors support. Everything here is being given to
support entrepreneurs’ needs to improve their ability to compete locally, regionally, and
internationally,” Mr. Fernandes said.
The Chairman further noted that the donation of the ATV and refrigerated trucks will
significantly enhance its work, thus allowing it to better reach farmers.
“With the handing over of these ATVs and trucks, we expect that GMC’s officers will be more
adequately equipped to reach farmers and agro-processors in distant communities and to better
cater to their concerns,” the Fernandes said.
“This investment will serve as a means of helping those farmers (affected by the recent flooding)
to go back to the land. That alone speaks of a caring government and a government that is
investing in its people,” Agriculture Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha said.
“We’ll be seeing an investment of $7.6 billion being made available to farmers who were
affected by the recent flooding across the country,” Mustapha said.
