St Ignatius residents gets COVID Cash Grant

As the recently elected Government of Guyana continues fulfilling several promises made, several residents in Region Nine began receiving their 25,000.00 per household COVID related cash grant.

Sources in St Ignatius village turned out in large numbers to collect the promised 25,000.00 per household cash grant and they were not disappointed.

“We are very happy to be receiving this money as it’s a testimony that the PPP government has not lied to us as many persons wanted us to believe,” an elderly woman said.

Anther who was elated with the money received admitted that she can finally get some needed food items. She confessed that owing to the grave economic challenges she was unable to take care of certain things and the money will ensure that she gets some food for her home. “I am very thankful to President Ali and his team as he has come through with this promise and the people of Region Nine wants to assure him that we will continue to stand behind him,” a woman who said that she has been unemployed since the start of COVID.

A father who said that he is frustrated with not finding work to take care of his family said, “at least I can buy some food and any form of assistance during this time is greatly needed and appreciated. The people of St Ignatius has been anxiously awaiting the distribution of this grant and we are truly thankful,” he said.

Many persons commented residents for the very orderly manner in how the lines proceeded during the exercise today with some stating that those who were responsible for the execution of this initiative should also be commended for an excellent job done. People were very mannerly and there were no incidents today. As you know that people can get disorderly, especially when money is being distributed, but today everyone understood what they needed to do and how it must be done,” a young single parent mother commented. She said that like every other beneficiary she is very grateful and thankful for the assistance and would like the President to know that his assistance has certainly helped many. “I have three children and is forced to raise them by myself. I am therefore appreciative of the assistance given as it will certainly go a very far away,” she declared.

Among those in attendance to witness the distribution was Region Nine REO Karl Singh, Regional Chairman Bryan Allicock, Toshao Dennis Benedict and Minister of Natural Resources Vickram Bharrat.

It was revealed that the process involves residents filling up an application form, which is then verified by the village council. They collect a receipt after which the cash grant is given to them.
