APPROXIMATELY 73.6 PER CENT OF ADOLESCENTS IN THE UPPER TAKUTU-
UPPER ESSEQUIBO (Region Nine) has received the first dose of the FDA-approved Pfizer-
BioNTech vaccine.
At the same time, 70.5 per cent of the Region Nine adult population has also received the jab,
Regional Health Officer (RHO) Dr. Cerdel M c Watt said in a Department of Public Information
(DPI) release.
Dr M c Watt told DPI that despite successes in the inoculation efforts among residents, there is
much more to be done.
“I would like to encourage all to be a part of the process…this is not a forceful activity but we
expect persons to act with a great deal of responsibility to do the right thing, getting their jabs
done at their earliest convenience,” he declared.
“We know that this is a worldwide issue, and so the faster we achieve herd immunity, then we
can be back to some norm,” the RHO counselled.
Meanwhile, the vaccines are available at fixed vaccination sites at the Lethem and Aishalton
hospitals, and at the Annai health centre and mobile units.
Additionally, health centres across the region can provide the service, where residents have
a choice of vaccine.
