Illegally acquired properties will be repossessed

THE GOVERNMENT WILL REPOSSESS ALL PROPERTIES private citizens illegally or
otherwise acquired said Junior Minister of Local Government and Regional Development
minister, Anand Persaud.
Persaud told Pomeroon- Supenaam (Region Two) Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC)
officials to implement existing laws guiding the sub-sector following an avalanche of complaints
by Affiance residents that drains have become clogged because residents ignore stipulations
when building bridges or fences to their properties.
“We are taking a no nonsense stand with regards to government’s reserve. No government
reserve, no parapet, no canal- the NDC has no right to rent, lease or sell any government reserve,
and they need to be proactive as of today and those persons who have illegally taken in canals or
trenches, they must be written to, to cease, desist and remove from those government reserves,”
minister Persaud instructed.
Residents complained the flow of water in their drains have been restricted because bridges to
some properties do not have the required width of tubing beneath. Several others pointed out that
the width of trenches in some areas were reduced by residents who constructed fences beyond
the required distance from the roadway.
NDC officials must insist rules and regulations are followed, the government minister said
during the government’s two-day cabinet retreat in the ‘Cinderella’ County.
“We have started a process of transformation of this country and I am asking the NDC to follow
suit and ensure any works, drainage, roads, electricity, school- they must play an integral role in
those developmental projects.”
After giving offenders a seven-day notice, the NDC must take further action within the confines
of the law.

“You need to be proactive in the community in every aspect… the NDC needs to play an
important role in this village,” minister Persaud instructed.
