India coach Ravi Shastri tests Covid- 19 positive in RT-PCR along with Bharat Arun, R Sridhar

Ravi Shastri was positive in his lateral flow test (rapid antigen test) result on
Sunday and was confirmed Covid-19 positive in his RT-PCR test on Monday
in London.

 Indian players and other members were cleared to take the field on Day 4 of the Oval Test

India head coach Ravi Shastri has tested positive for Covid-19 in the latest RT-
PCR test according to a BCCI source and will continue to be in isolation for 10
days in London along with fielding coach R Sridhar and bowling coach Bharat
Arun, who have also contracted the virus.
The three support staff members will remain in London while the rest of the
squad moves to Manchester next week for the final Test starting September 10.
Shastri was positive in his lateral flow test (rapid antigen test) result for Covid and
was isolated along with Arun, Sridhar and team physio Nitin Patel.
The players and rest of the Indian team staff had to undergo 2 lateral flow tests
on Saturday evening and Sunday morning after Shastri's positive result but
thankfully, everybody else returned negative and were cleared just minutes
ahead of Day 4 of the fourth Test.
All the players and the support staff are fully vaccinated. Shastri is likely to have
got the symptoms after attending the launch of his book in the team hotel where
outside guests were also allowed. Arun, Patel and Sridhar attended that function
in person.
"I don't remember the exact time. But around last night, at around 8pm, he felt a
little bit of discomfort. The medical team decided to go for the Lateral Flow Test
and it came positive. And that's when we all found out he was positive.

"His close contacts were identified and isolated," India batting coach Vikram Rathour
said after the day's play on Sunday.
India came up with a strong batting show on Day 4, posting 466 on the board and set
England a target of 368 to win the fourth Test. The five-match series is currently level at
1-1, the final Test will be played at Old Trafford in Manchester.
