CARICOM NEIGHBOURS GUYANA AND SURINAME are mulling setting up a private
sector business council established following the recent official visit here by President
Chandrikapersad Santokhi of the former Dutch colony.
The Private Sector Commission (PSC) of Guyana and the Suriname Trade and Industry
Association (VSB) announced their intentions in a joint release towards the end of Santokhi’s
visit to Georgetown.
The two commissions are buoyed by the ongoing dynamic cooperation between Guyana and
Suriname and want to maximise on current and future opportunities available through
partnerships and joint ventures in the available markets.
They proposed body will comprise key representatives of the private sector, completely
dedicated to the strengthening of economic ties and initiatives regarding our shared interests,
their joint press statement explained. It said the new entity will be geared towards the creation of
the envisioned single market and economy.
Guyana and Suriname have always enjoyed excellent people-to-people and business relations.
The two sides anticipate a vibrant and improved level of partnership and cooperation between
themselves, the release said.
