The Ministry of Labour and Demerara Timbers Limited (DTL) held talks Wednesday to help
resolve the longstanding issue of non-communication between the company and the Guyana
Agricultural Workers Union (GAWU).
Long before the pandemic, DTL has been refusing in-person meeting with GAWU preferring
written dialogue.
Consequently, GAWU’s sought the Labour Ministry’s intervention for a resolution.
Labour Minister, Mr Joseph Hamilton and the Chief Labour Officer (CLO), Mr. Dhaneshwar
Deonarine, met Tuesday with DTL representatives which included Operations Manager, Mr.
Ting Hie Chui; Sales Officer, Mr. Robert Perry; and Office Manager, Mr. David Chen Zhao
Quan, to help remove the sticking points.
DTL has agreed to meet with GAWU in another two weeks. CLO Deonarine will guide
that meeting.
