THE ILLEGAL SALE OF COVID-19 VACCINATION CARDS might be more widespread
than originally believed.
In an earlier story this week this media house reported that police are investigating the theft of
the vaccination document from a popular city hospital. We can now report that the suspect is a
Guyana Defence Force (GDF) soldier who spirited not one but four COVID-19 inoculation
documents from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
www.aroundtheregions.com has subsequently learnt that GPHC plans to fire a recently-
employed Clerk Wednesday, blaming her for the theft of the key documents.
“This young lady barely get this wuk (work) six months ago and I can tell you that this job is her
everything, so why would she throw it all away? As a matter of fact, she wasn’t at work when
this whole thing happened, so how can you blame her when she wasn’t here?” an employee
queried in speaking to this media house.
“Since COVID start is nuff, nuff ‘runnings’ going on here: From COVID supplies to medical
certificates to almost everything that can be sold. You have some people teking a thing and
unfortunately, if you see you can’t talk because wuk hard fuh get. Nobody aint gon throw them
wuk away because of their ears and eyes, at least not me. But the reality is that the lil girl
innocent and nuff people know that,” the employee said.
The GPHC worker noted there is an urgent need for a probe to question several staff including
some high profile and senior officials since the theft of the vaccination documents and other
skullduggeries have been taking place unabated at the country’s apex healthcare institution.
The young clerk is now likely to be made GPHC’s scapegoat and sacrificial lamb.
“This is a case where a completely innocent person who may lose her job because someone
deliberately framed the young clerk in an attempt to cover up their acts. This young lady needs
the job and to conclude that she is at fault is foolishness. Sadly, the HR Manager bluntly told her
without properly listening to her side that she is a liar. The question is, is she a liar because she is
insignificant to them or a tiny fish?” the employee asked.
Another employee suggested that police detectives should pressure the GDF suspect in the theft
and they will “find out a lot of things.”
Among the facts investigators will elicit is that the young clerk was absent from duty on the day
of the theft and that she and the nurse who manned her desk are not friends. The employee said
the timing of the theft seemed “well-calculated”.
Meanwhile, a number of nurses are accusing several of their colleagues along the East Bank
corridor of being part of the racket involving the illegal sale of COVID-19 vaccination cards.
This media house understands the cards are either sold and/or given freely to relatives and
friends with false information about their inoculation status.
They are outraged that the head office has dropped the ball.
“This is nothing new, and many persons who are now talking know this was taking place a long
time, but like everything else, people don’t say anything until it gets out of hand,” a nurse told
this publication.
Another nurse disclosed that the situation got so bad that a senior health worker warned nurses
along the East Bank about the scam.
A social media message seen by this publication says inter alia, “It is alleged that nurses on
the East Bank are writing false COVID vaccine cards for friends and relatives, please stop
doing it.”
