Minister of Health, Hon. Dr Frank Anthony
THOSE CAUGHT SELLING COVID-19 VACCINATION CARDS will face the full force
of the law warned Health Minister, Dr Frank Anthony.
Anthony’s advanced notice to crooks was reiterated following investigations by this media house
after it got wind of allegations that some healthcare workers in the capital have been offering the
vaccination cards for $50,000 (US$250 approx.) each.
It is not the first time that allegations of sale have surfaced in the capital.
One person approached about the scheme said, “my friend just tell me that if I want the book she
knows someone who has connections that will get it for me. All I need to do is to pay fifty grand
($50,000.00) and it is mine,” the woman said.
False information would indicate that the person(s) received the Covid jab.
According to the potential client reached by www.aroundtheregions.com the contact with “a big
position” in the health ministry can indeed secure the promised book.
“She showed me her book along with that of her gentleman, who both showed that they had
secured both doses of the vaccine. However, she admitted that they never took any vaccine but
did this so that they can use the booklet to get pass scrutiny as she told me that her gentleman
employer was pressuring the employees to get vaccinated,” the woman confessed.
A few other sources reached verified the existence of the scheme.
When two beneficiaries of the crooked scheme were reached both disconnected the telephone
conversation. Another denied her family was involved in the criminal scheme.
“If we were not vaccinated, how then did we secure the books indicating such? We don’t work at
the Ministry of Health how did we get the books as we couldn’t walk in there and secure it. My
family and I got our vaccines, so whoever is saying that we bought the books then they should
call the names of all those who bought the books and how we were able to get the books
bought,” the outraged woman said.
A male relative of one of the accused purchasers of the book said because of the government’s
failure to engage the citizens in a meaningful way when making policy decisions they will find
novel ways to beat the system.
“The government is saying that the vaccines are not compulsory but you have agencies,
workplaces and other places pressuring people to take the vaccines. So, people will find
innovative means to avoid pressure. I know that many persons are making this into a political
thing, but truth be told if it was the APNU+AFC government in office, they would have done the
exact thing of pressuring people. So, it has nothing to do with PPPC, but rather the politicians in
this country will use the word government as an excuse,” the man said.
Two senior officials at central ministry of health on Brickdam, in the capital city, refused
to comment on the illegal scheme, directing all queries to Dr Ertenisa Hamilton who has
responsibility for the country’s vaccination programme.
