Health before wealth Making a difference In Region Ten

AFC Region Ten Councillor, Norris King

LINDEN PUTS HEALTH BEFORE WEALTH UNLIKE THE REST OF GUYANA said
Alliance For Change (AFC) Councillor Norris King.
King made the observation during an interview with www.aroundtheregions.com citing his
concern about the spiralling death rate he blamed on Guyanese, especially the business sector,
not taking the COVID-19 pandemic seriously.
“Linden and Region Ten is a totally different place from the rest of Guyana as most would know.
People in Linden and Region Ten would say that this is the only place that has a (functioning)
curfew. The rest of Guyana primarily is a free for all. In the heavy business districts…the
people… just see a dollar sign and they got to get it at all cost,” a distressed King stressed.
More than 250 Guyanese have so far died from COVID-19 first detected in Wuhan, China, at the
end of 2019.
A female overseas-based Guyanese was the first local victim in March last year. Since then,
there have been more than 10,950 cases with over 9,500 recoveries.
Globally the deadly infectious has killed 2.9 million people with some 76 million recoveries
from 135 million infections.
Upper Demerara/Berbice (Region Ten), according to AFC’s King is a trend-setter and recognises
the urgency of putting health first.
This trend, King predicted, will continue because the authorities there are determined to save
lives and prevent rapid spreading of the infection among residents.
“While we are improving our economic stage here in Region Ten, we put our health first and we
will not just go after money because that in itself is detrimental and it will not serve its purpose
for us here in Region Ten,” the AFC Councillor declared.

Said he, “I would like to commend the Mayor (Ms. Waneka Arrindell) and the COVID
Taskforce for the commendable job they are doing. I think that in itself, would have
contributed to the low incidents of COVID in Linden and Region Ten as well as the low
COVID deaths in the Region,” he opined.
