On Tuesday, February 23, 2021, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Honourable Hugh Todd, declared open the Mashramani Football Competition hosted by the South Turkeyen Sports Committee.
During the competition held at the Vryheid Lust Play Field, Minister Todd addressed the youth and adult teams. He made special mention to the youth about the importance of being disciplined and balancing both their sports and academic pursuits.
The Foreign Minister reiterated the Government’s commitment to youth and sports development in addition to the rehabilitation of sports grounds across the country. In keeping with this undertaking, the Government has established a Youth Advisory Council to engage young people in policy-making decisions. The Council will be inclusive in its work towards the advancement of youth and sports, among other areas.
Teams from Plaisance, Better Hope, Vryheid Lust, and Sophia turned out for the five-a-side small goal and penalty shootout competition. Trophies for the competition were donated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
