Feelings of nonpartisan expressed at Ministerial outreach

TIMEHRI DOCS residents will work with the incumbent administration although traditionally,
they support the opposition Peoples National Congress, the major party of the A Partnership for
National Unity, Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) coalition which lost the March 2020 polls.
The community thronged Ministers Nigel Dharamlall and Kwame Mc Koy who visited the East
Bank Demerara community where the need for public infrastructure, potable water and
employment opportunities dominated the conversation.
Ron Williams, the Timehri Docs community leader said loyalty to the APNU+AFC will not
prevent them buying-in to the government’s development plan which benefits them Williams
described as impressive the work currently done by the government.

“I come from a community that traditionally supported APNU+AFC but the truth is that this
administration has started off very nicely and we want to be a part of the transformation. We
want to lend support to this government in assisting in bringing about development. The truth is
that we are seeing progress and we want to be part of the progress, so we are prepared to
collaborate with the government in any way to continue this progress in several other
communities,” Williams, also a Taxi driver, said.
Another villager, Lennox Thompson is over-awed by the significant development taking place.
He said although Docs is a predominantly afro-Guyanese community, they will work along with
the government for improvement of their community.
“We are very happy that the current administration is one that is not race based as they have
welcomed our interest in reaching out to them and we are very happy with the approach taken by
President (Irfaan) Ali and his ministers. It demonstrates that there is growing political maturity.
We came here today to meet with both ministers  to  update them on what is taking place within
our community and I must say that we are satisfied and happy with the level of interest and
commitment being shown towards our community,” Thompson said.

He too has nonpartisan leanings emphasising that he is prepared to lend his expertise as a survey
technician to the government. Thompson said he was involved in the construction of the East
Bank four-lane road and the thoroughfares in the New Diamond scheme.
Meanwhile, Mr. Aubrey Walters, a former Ministry of Public Works employee, is also
impressed by the achievements of the six-month government and is willing to play his part in the
advancement of his community.
“The work by this new administration is very impressive and I salute them because we the
residents of Timehri Docs are extremely impressed by what the PPP/C government is doing right
now and we congratulate them on these initiatives because this is what the people want to see,”
Walters said.
