FOR female entrepreneur Omawattie Ramsaywack her packaging firm and ‘Om’s Fresh Fruits,
Vegetables and Groceries’ are not just about the money. They are about satisfied customers.
Satisfied about service.
Satisfied about quality.
And she refuses to compromise these her sacred business standards.
Ramsaywack, believes mega-farming helps boost a nation’s food security and helps slash
poverty. She told www.aroundtheregions.com in an exclusive that with the ‘buy local’ belief
surging in Guyana, the country’s vast potential in the sector will be maximised supercharging its
exports regionally and internationally.
“The reason why we buy our produce from several communities across Guyana is that we are
determined to ensure that our customers get the best quality stuff so there are times when we buy
from Essequibo, Mahaica, Berbice and even West Demerara because we want to ensure that
regardless of where it takes us to get quality (products) we will pursue after it,” Ramsaywak said.
She is adding value to locally-grown products with her packaging expertise ensuring customers
have less to worry about the safety of their purchase and the amount of time they will expend in
preparing the dish.

“What we do is that we ensure that everything is cleaned: whether it’s the eschallot, bora, orchro
or even the fruits. When a customer opens a package it’s already properly washed and cleaned,
ensuring that all they have to do is cook and or eat it,” she explained.
The entrepreneur manages a family-run business in the capital city making it easier to stay afloat
in a competitive arena rife with uncertainties in today’s ‘global village’.
“This is a family business…and because we are family it doesn’t feel like a job as we enjoy the
company and interactions with each other when we are working. This helps to motivate us to do
more so that the business can continue to grow, and we all want to see the business succeed as
everybody puts in far more than what is required,” the magnate said.
She continues to target supermarkets for these buy the bulk of her products Firms include Massy
Providence and Turkeyen; Nirva; Survival; Bounty on Sheriff Street and Bourda Market
“I have been concentrating a lot on the supermarkets as they are the ones that has been
significantly taking off what we have and while I would love to see our ordinary customers walk
in to make purchases the reality is that things have changed in every area because of COVID,”
she said
The Ramsaywacks who live on the thriving East Coast corridor, have a rigorous daily routine
leaving home every day at approximately 3 am to begin their work. Many persons have been
encouraging the matriarch to expand the business taking it outside of the capital too, but this
requires a bigger staff and willingness to employ ‘outsiders’.
Said the matriarch: “Many people would urge me to go out of town to the big supermarkets and
even the Chinese but that isn’t my focus at the moment. I am seeking to grow the business, but
more importantly, to expand in a way that my customers can be satisfied.”
While I would love to make more money I believe that I should only do what I can handle
at the moment so that everybody would be satisfied with not only the service but also the
quality,” Ramsaywack emphasised.
