Well-known and respected People’s Progressive Party (PPP) Central Committee Member,
Majeed Hussain, has died.
Sources close to this media house, www.aroundtheregions.com that the longstanding member
died sometime after 2 am this morning. Uninformed reports are that Majeed died from COVID
An outpouring of condolences and grief have been pouring in from party members near and far,
as well as other politicians who were acquainted with the “friendly and easy going” Hussain.
The party issued a statement on the death of Hussain describing him as a well-loved individual.
The People’s Progressive Party mourns the passing of one of its leaders, Majeed Hussain, who
died earlier this morning.
It stated that Majeed Hussain served the party in various capacities, adding that he was a member
of the Central Committee.
Heaping praises on Hussain the patty said that he was a true patriot who was integrally involved
in the struggle to resist the attempt by the APNU+AFC to subvert the will of the Guyanese
people through the rigging of the March 2nd 20202 General and Regional Elections.
It ended by stating that the party expresses its deepest condolences to the family and relatives of
Majeed Hussain and the members of the PPP family who knew and loved this friendly and
humble leader. Hussain was respected and admired by many including several of his political
foes, who upon learning of his death also expressed shock, grief and sadness at his sudden
passing. Several echoed similar sentiments stating that he would be greatly missed.
Meanwhile, Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo in a Facebook post described the passing of Hussain
as very shocking and a severe loss to the party and Guyana. “His passing represents a significant
loss to the party and Guyana as a whole. He was a comrade, a friend, and a dedicated worker
who was committed to the cause of the upliftment of the Guyanese people,” the Vice President
said.
He continued, “He played a substantial role during our 2020 Elections campaign and later during
the five-month period in which attempts were made to subvert our democracy. Guyana has lost a
true son of the soil with his passing. On behalf of myself and the party, I offer deepest
condolences to the family, relatives, friends and comrades of Majeed Hussain.”
