Om’s Fresh fruits, Vegetables and Groceries to the rescue

REGIONAL EXECUTIVE OFFICER (REO) Mr. Narindra Persaud has donated hampers to
three Region Four families to help make their Christmas celebrations this year a bit brighter.
The REO of East Berbice/Corentyne (Region Six) was happy to help the families as part of a
wider programme to assist families hard hit by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic which has so
far killed more than 160 Guyanese since it was first diagnosed here in March.
“I am happy that through my involvement these three families can have a better Christmas.
Bringing smiles to the faces of people, is part of my Government’s commitment, and we will
continue to deliver on the many commitments so that all families can access and utilise the
opportunities being created,” Persaud said.

Two senior citizens and a young single-parent were the beneficiaries of the initiative conceived
by journalist Mr. Rawle Nelson of www.aroundtheregions.com
According to Nelson, “One morning I woke up and felt in my spirit that I should approach REO
Persaud as I am not keen on asking around for things for people especially in these times because
it can be misconstrued in many ways. After a discussion with REO he assured me that if there
was anything that he could do he would.”
Om’s Fresh fruits, Vegetables and Groceries prepared the food hampers.
Nelson was overjoyed to see his dreams fructify.
“I was extremely excited as I know that telling these three families, they would be speechless.
It’s a great feeling when someone can help you especially if you didn’t expect it and that is how
these families are feeling,” said Nelson.
“I am truly thankful to REO Persaud who, through the goodness of his office, sought to ensure
that smiles and happiness were brought to three families, who for many reasons, would not have

had a Christmas and by extension, I would enjoy my Christmas because I was in no way capable
of helping them directly,” Nelson recalled.
Ms. Phyllis Medouze, one of the recipients, was overcome with emotions upon receiving the gift
package. She said her husband is ailing and with no other means of income but his monthly old-
age pension, the hamper will go a long way “to brighten our Christmas”.
Proprietor of Om’s Fresh fruits, Vegetables and Groceries, Ms. Omawattie Ramsaywak still felt
fortunate to play a role in helping soften the struggles of the three families this Christmas,
although she does these deeds regularly.
“We are very happy to be supporting this initiative and I would like to reassure the public of our
commitment to supporting initiatives like these. We are determined and committed and would
like to assure that we intend to continue such gestures into the new year,” Ramsaywak said.
