Ruling party resuming weekly meetings with the public

THE RULING Peoples Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) will resume weekly meetings with the
general public at its Robb Street headquarter in the capital from early next year Minister of Legal
Affairs and Attorney General, Mr. Anil Nandlall announced during an exclusive interview with
www.aroundtheregions.com Saturday.
Nandlall said Ministers of government will take turns each Saturday listening and documenting
public concerns so that the Irfaan Ally administration comprising the government can provide
solutions in keeping with the Manifesto the party campaigned on during the runup to the March
2020 contentious polls.
“Those who have housing problems will get an opportunity to meet with the Minister of
Housing, those with educational problems will meet with the Minister of Education among
others. This forms part of our commitment made during the election campaign that we intend to
keep,” Nandlall said.

He said the weekly public engagements will help the government fulfil its campaign promises
and ensure political capital secured at the recent polls is not wasted.
“We want to ensure the public trust and confidence in the government are not eroded,” the
Minister said.
The Guyanese government has unveiled several multibillion-dollar infrastructural projects which
Nandlall is confident will be a fillip to the Guyanese nascent petro-economy.
“We intend to remain grounded with the people of this country and not captivated only with the
big issues of the mega projects that are taking place. Some of these projects are the new
Demerara Harbour Bridge and the completion of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport. We
have a booming hospitality industry and there are several expressions of interest of constructing
brand name hotels including Hilton, Holiday Inn and the, Sheraton. We also have the road to
Brazil and the deep water harbour in Berbice. However, while we are confident of the benefits

and reach of these, we are cognizant that we cannot forget the small issues as well,” the Legal
Affairs Minister cautioned.
Nandlall has been meeting the public since his appointment in August, and according to him,
ordinary Guyanese are more concerned about ‘bread and butter’ issues that affect their daily
lives.
“The people that I meet here every Saturday, while they may be happy for a Holiday Inn or a
Hilton coming to Guyana, they are more interested about some issue that are more peculiar to
them.”
“You have to pay attention to the ordinary people and this is what we will be achieving
through these engagements that we will be commencing in January 2021,” Minister
Nandlall assured.
