Mackenzie Primary wins inaugural World AIDS Day Best Decorated Vehicle competition

Mackenzie High School won the inaugural World AIDs Day Best Decorated Vehicle
competition ahead of Christianburg Primary and Ms Fayeann Tappin-Benn an individual.
Mackenzie Primary won with a whopping 281 points followed by Christianburg Primary with
(2546 WHAT IS THE REAL SCORE FOR THIS SCHOOL?) and Tappin-Benn, Regional
Health and Family Life (HFLE) Coordinator and the brainchild behind the event, with 241. The
Best Decorated Vehicle competition was part of the week of activities to mark the annual World
AIDS Day observances by the Department of Education of Region Ten (Upper
Demerara/Berbice).

Seven vehicles entered the inaugural competition which attracted scores of onlookers as the
motorcade journeyed through numerous communities displaying unique HIV-related messages.
The Department of Education also organised essay writing, poster and visual arts competitions
for nursery pupils and students of grades three, five and six in the Region.
It will distribute hampers tomorrow to people living with AIDS (PLWAIDS) and others directly
affected by the deadly disease as part of this year’s activities to help reduce stigma and
discrimination linked to the virus. The Department of Education in the bauxite mining town will
also distribute prizes to winners of various competitions and activities undertaken to
commemorate World AIDS Day this year.
There will also be a handing over of Teaching and Learning resources to the Linden Hospital
Complex (LHC) for use in the Children’s Ward.
“We can’t allow ourselves nor children to forget that despite COVID taking centre stage the
focus on HIV/AIDS must remain,” HFLE Coordinator Tappin-Benn said.
She thanked the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) administration, community members
and staff of the Education Department for their sterling support.
