First Lady, H.E. Arya Ali today joined the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) in a tree-planting exercise to celebrate the launch of Tourism Month.
The activity complements initiatives undertaken by the First Lady through her Georgetown Beautification Project.
GTA Tourism Development Officer – Events, Ms. Shellon Nicholas said she hopes to increase public awareness about the importance of preserving nature.
“This activity will not only continue this tradition, but will also symbolise our collective approach within the Tourism Sector as we work towards rebuilding bigger and better, to once again welcome travellers to this beautiful country,” she said.
The GTA planted 20 trees including saijan (moringa), avocado, cashew, mango, lemon, orange, sapodilla, pomegranate, breadfruit and neem.
The First Lady planted a breadfruit tree.
This year’s Tourism Month is themed ‘Destination Guyana: Recover, Rebuild – Getting ready to bounce back.’
