St Cuthbert’s Mission to begin two weeks lockdown

St Cuthbert’s Mission will begin two weeks lock down commencing on Saturday November,
2p020. This was the confirmation given by the Toshao, Beverly Clenkian during an interview

Toshao Clenkian said that the need to implement an emergency lockdown is because of your
massive surge of CVID 19 cases within the community. She disclosed that on Monday several
residents were tested with 26 of those tests returning positive. She noted that on Wednesday
another 33 persons were tested positive also.
“Friday is the last day for residents to do their shopping as we are locking down the community
for two weeks. This is the second lockdown as we seek to curb the spread of COVID 19,” the
Toshao said.

She revealed that the decision to implement a lock down came about as a result of what they
view as the tardy approach by some residents to COVID. She said that there is a very high rate of
COVID in the community and the Village Council has to implement measures in addressing this.
“This week alone we registered 26 cases on Monday and by Wednesday we got another 33 cases.
At the moment we are waiting on some more results,” she said.
The Toshao said that while there are no deaths they are concerned as prior to these numbers the
community had not registered any cases of COVID. This, she stressed is because residents are
tardy at the moment, while the seriousness that was once associated with COVID is no longer
there.
“People are not taking this very seriously and we the Council have to do something about it. We
have been stressing and asking persons to take precautions but unfortunately several persons
continues to ignore, thus we must implement the lockdown aimed at protecting the residents and
community,” she argued.
The Toshao said that she has communicate the decision of the community being on lockdown to
the Regional Education Officer (REdO). She said that while the students would miss being back
into the classroom, the measures being implemented are geared towards protecting them.
“I have already spoke to the REdO and while there will be no classroom interactions the PTA
will be going door to door to the affected students with the view of giving hem worksheets. We
have notified the students that it’s just two weeks and with the number of cases now, this is very
important to stem what seems to be rapid numbers,” she said.
The Toshao disclosed that many are eager to be tested as many wants to be sure of their status.
She said no one has been forced or pressured into being tested. “Everybody wants to be tested
and because of this everybody is seeking to be tested as we didn’t force anyone. This is the first
cases we recorded as before Monday we never had any cases of COVID,” she declared.
