Region Five, Labour officials discuss training opportunities

Technical Officers attached to the Ministry of Labour, Board of Industrial Training have paid a courtesy call on Region Five’s newly elected Regional Chairman, Mr. Vickchand Ramphal and Regional Executive Officer (REO), Ms. Geneveive Blackman.

During the meeting at the Regional Democratic Council office, the discussions covered the provision of a wide range of training for people in the region, particularly in agro- processing and domestic skill courses.

REO Ms. Blackman said the region will be ready to work with the BIT.

“We have a number of youths, single mothers, school dropouts and persons who are ready to learn a new trade and with our help we will sensitise persons, enabling them to get registered through their respective NDC in time for the future programmes,” she said.

Discussions were also held with representatives from the Occupational Safety and Health Department to enforce strict guidelines for a revitalised work force.

Before the end of the last quarter, approximately 145 persons would have completed training through the agency in various technical and vocational skills.
