COVID Cash Grant moving smoothly – REO

Regional Executive Officer (REO), Dwight John said that the government’s cash grant
distribution taking place in Region Ten is moving smoothy. In an invited comment, John told
www.aroundtheregions.com that the distribution has been receiving overwhelming support from
residents who are delighted and eager to receive the cash grant.
“Residents recognize that this forms part of what was placed into the budget for them and will
help in putting food on their table, so they are all excited and thankful for it,” John said.
The recently appointed REO said that from the reports that he has received there have not been
any resistance to the project, noting that many persons have been expressing their appreciation at
various forums for the assistance provided thus far by the government.
REO John also disclosed that the distribution is moving ahead smoothly expressing appreciation
to residents for accessing the grant support, while reminding them about the government's
commitment and support to Region ten.
“As the REO I am mandated to ensure that the region benefits from the numerous developmental
plans and initiatives that the government has in place for Region Ten. I intend that with the
continued support of all stakeholders, I will continue to execute my duties, thus ensuring that
residents benefit significantly from them,” he reassured.

given the cash grants. One woman said that she will use the money to garner some food, noting
that she is a single parent of four children and with limited food in her house she can help to
increase what she has for her children's sake. “We are really grateful as this is money that I
didn’t have to beg for or borrow and I intend to spend every dollar in buying food as I don’t
know when I will be able to do so again, so thanks to the government,” she said.
Another who admitted that while she only has two children and is married, her husband has been
in the interior for the past four months and has been unable to support the family because he isn’t
doing well. “My husband is in the interior but for over four months he hasn’t sent anything
because they have not been doing well so I am here holding unto hope that things get better.
Therefore, this money comes in at the right time and I intend to cushion the difficulties that we
are facing at home. While I am not starving, I am exceptionally happy because it is needed
especially now,” she said.
Speaking to a man who is the breadwinner for his household said that he does construction but
noted that construction in the mining town has come to a virtual halt owing to the pandemic. He
said that he has reverted into doing some odd jobs to garner the required resources to put food on
his family table. He finds it very difficult at times, he stressed that the cash grant is like ‘God
sent’ and he would like to express his appreciation to the government. “I am no political person
or even interested in politics but what I can say is that the government has come forward at a
time when all Guyanese need such assistance. There are many who would say that the money
should have been bigger but I believe in being thankful, so I will say that the money is certainly

going to help me and my family, as I am the breadwinner in my home, we all need this ,” he
declared.
