Recently Region Ten saw the appointment of a new Regional Executive Officer (REO). Dwight
John who worked in Region Four prior to his appointment was appointed as the REO. John
effectively replaced Orrin Gordon, who was fired shortly after the PPPC administration took
office. He also took over from Ms. Dollette Powers who acted for a few weeks as the acting
REO.
However, while the Region currently has no Deputy Regional Executive Officer (DREO), owing
to the retirement some months ago by Maylene Stephen, a number of persons have expressed
interest in the position.
An official at the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development confirmed that
Powers is currently acting as the DREO. Her substantive position remains as the Principal
Assistant Secretary (PAS) of Finance. However, with several persons expressing an interest in
securing the position, there are multiple reports of frictions taking place among these and other
officials in the Region.
www.aroundtheregions.com disclosed that Chief Accountant Vanessa Williams, Asante Austin
serving as the Admin Assistant for Health and Tessa Ragbeer who works at Linden Utilities
Services and Co-op Society Limited (LUSCSL) have all expressed interest in the job. Some
noted that while both Vanessa and Powers worked in the accounts department and shared a long
fruitful relationship, there are some evident friction related issues among them with some of the
staff in the accounts department expressing support towards Vanessa Williams getting the nod
over Powers.
www.aroundtheregions.com were able to confirm that these individuals have all expressed an
interest in the position, with some expressing the view that they can effectively provide the
support that is required to further enhance REO John’s performance.
Meanwhile, Tessa Ragbeer didn’t mince any words in expressing her interest, stating that with
her years of experience in various sectors and responsibilities she feels fully equipped to better
serve the region than the others who are expressing interests. While some are somewhat open to
Ragbeer working at the RDC, several are up in arms reminding this media house that some years
ago her daughter and her were accused of several millions that had gone missing from the
Region. While many feel that the mother was innocent, many firmly believe that she has
sheltered and covered for her daughter’s whereabouts who is reportedly believed to be living in
the USA.
“She may not have been the one to steal the monies, but she could have provided several
valuable information that could have led to the apprehension of her daughter, but she didn’t. As
such, she in my view is somewhat responsible as she said or did nothing to aid the government
then in retrieving the millions that went missing,” a party member in Region Ten said.
It is not clear if Powers have expressed an interest in being confirmed into the position.
However, many have noted that with several allegations levelled against her and an impending
investigation, she may be focused on other things rather than securing the position that she
currently acts in.
