Doctors to be trained in COVID-19 management

Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Frank Anthony

The Government has organised specialised training on the management of COVID-19 for doctors.

This project is being done through a collaboration with the Republic of Chile.

Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Frank Anthony said the course, which runs from November 2-20, is open to all doctors.

“We had a meeting with the Ambassador of Chile to Guyana [HE Patricio Becker] and one of the projects that we are working on is to train clinicians in Guyana, on the management of COVID-19, offered by the Chilean authorities. It is a very extensive course looking at different aspects of COVID-19 management; how do you detect the signs and symptoms, what to look for, and of course, how to do fertility management and other complications that would arise from COVID-19.”

The training is being done virtually and can therefore, accommodate a large number of participants.

“The faculty would be in Chile, but participants can be in any part of the world, so we are very happy for this collaboration locally. I have reached out to the Guyana Medical Council and they would be working with us to ensure that the information is circulated to all doctors registered with the Medical Council.

Minister Anthony said he hoped local doctors would take up the opportunity. He said the initiative would provide them with the most up-to-date information on how to manage patients with COVID-19, since there are new discoveries every day.

Dr. Anthony noted that the professors conducting the training have been tracking the disease and putting together the information to present it in a comprehensive format.
