Nation awaits dates for first press conference, opening of parliament

THE NEWLY-ELECTED LABOUR GOVERNMENT WILL SOON meet with the press corps and announce the date of the opening of the new parliament since the Timothy Harris administration was booted from office two months ago.

“I want to assure the public that we will have our first parliament in the first few days of November, and we are working towards putting everything in place,” St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew, recently assured while appearing on Freedom FM’s show ‘Issues’.

Dr Drew said the relevant systems for the preparation of the next parliament are being made and his administration is moving aggressively ahead to ensure that newly-elected officials commence their legislative work as he anticipated.

On the issue of interfacing with the media, the Prime Minister also assured his first press conference will be held shortly as well.

“Very soon I will be hold my first press conference with members of the media and at that press conference I will be addressing and divulging a number of…issues.  We will face the press as a team and as an administration. I can assure you that this will be a regular feature,” Drew promised.

Drew found a multitude of issues needs fixing by his new government.

“There is still a lot of…reparative work because a lot of wrongs that would have been done to people that was unnecessary. There was a streak of vindictiveness (meted out) to certain sections to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis. That is exactly what we will not practice. One cannot govern an administration like that,” he counselled.

Additionally, “It is very important that we avoid certain things like being vindictive and victimise citizens and residents. We recognise that the reparative work has to be done, it must be done so we have to repair it, we want to create a country that will be the envy of many,” Drew said.

Drew continued: “The first few weeks of any administration are very important as it requires that we do this type of work, and you would see ministers would travel and do their work. So, I want to thank them tremendously for the work they have been doing. I am very, very proud of the team and what they have been doing thus far”.

“I want to assure the people of St. Kitts and Nevis that the new administration is definitely hard at work.  We have settled down (and) are working tremendously (hard). As you can see, the ministers are doing their work locally, regionally and internationally,” the PM said.

He said the character of his administration will be significantly different from the last seven years suffered by Kittitians, Nevisians and immigrants.

“Once we start on the path of good governance it will allow the country to unleash its full potential, where people can live in a country where they can advance themselves and family and whatever they put in they would be able to get out. People really want to live in a true paradise but we (Government) are working on it to have it right,” PM Dr Drew promised.
