The OAS Observers meeting with Dr Drew and and Mr Hanley
The main opposition St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) met earlier today with election observers from the Organisation of American States (OAS) and the regional integration body CARICOM.
Elections are scheduled for the Caribbean twin island Federation this Friday.
Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris was reluctant to have poll watchers at this election called three years ahead of schedule after his three-party coalition collapsed after six of his eight ministers withdrew from the administration following an avalanche of corruption complaints.
Then the SKNLP insisted they will not participate in the polls if foreign observers are not invited.
Eventually, PM Harris softened his hardline position.
Opposition Leader Dr. Denzil Douglas and Party Leader, Dr. Terrance Drew then launched a massive political campaign blitz which seemed to have caught PM Harris by surprise.
www.aroundtheregions.com learnt that while the OAS are already on the ground in St. Kitts and Nevis, CARICOM met with the opposition virtually and is expected to be on the ground in hours.
