PLP’s SHAME LIST

Dr. Terrence Drew speaking to a massive crowd

THE PEOPLE’S LABOUR PARTY (PLP) has publicly circulated a list containing some 2,500 names of supposed financial beneficiaries of its PEACE initiative introduced more than three years ago to help thwart gang-related violence then threatening to spiral out of control in the Caribbean Island of St Kitts and Nevis.

Sources on the twin-island CARICOM state told www.aroundtheregions.com the publication of the list was strategically timed to use recipients of the 40-month-old PEACE programme as surety for support at the August 5th polls.

“The operatives publish the list…in a desperate attempt to force them to vote for a failing PLP” a source said.

Its public release follows closely that of other another threatening list calculated to shame recipients to vote for the three-party coalition that fell out of favour with the electorate which backed them in 2015 and 2020.

The PLP “has no chance of forming a (new) government and is running out of time. It uses desperate measures of fear and intimidation days before the election,” the source noted.

The latest PLP ‘hostage’ list identifies the names of the beneficiaries of the PEACE programme and the communities in which they live. Multiple sources are unsure how much each person receives, but information reaching www.aroundtheregions.com shows some $31M has been budgeted is in this year’s estimates for the government-run financial assistance plan.

Many have criticised PM Dr Timothy Harris-driven plan as another cash cow for a government heavily criticised for grift and other corrupt practices.

When he spoke at the launch of his party’s public launch of its electronic manifesto, prime ministerial candidate, Dr Terrance Drew blasted the Harris administration for corruption and shameless self-interest.

“Comrades you have heard the other sides in this campaign. They are not for the people. One guy has made clear he is running because he does not believe his family got its fair share under the previous Team Unity Government. So, he does not want to see PAM, he is going where he believes he can feather his nest,” Dr Drew told his enraptured audience.

Drew said others have calculated enormous benefits they can accrue as a PLP candidate.

“Then there are those running, simply because it better positions their businesses to access government contracts. Some are running…because they have been paid to run while others felt that they did not get enough under Labour, so now is their time to fill their pockets.”

“In none of their equations, comrades and friends, has the interest of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis been considered. Not a word has been uttered from their platform about the state of the St. Kitts and Nevis economy and the need for us to adapt to the realities of fiscal management in the throes of a global pandemic, which, I warn you, is far from over,” the medically-trained St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) top candidate explained.

Part of the crowd

Drew and his SKNLP are tipped to win the August 5th polls against the incumbent battling against escalating internal strife and a prime minister isolating himself more and more from regional and global events.

His two-term government collapsed after six ministers pulled out of the three-party coalition following repeated complaints of financial and other shenanigans. A successful no confidence motion (NCM) forced the reluctant PM Harris to call early polls.

He is heading into the elections with elected officials with backs turned to each other.

“Candidates on the other sides in this campaign are fixated with victory and fixated with defeating the other partner in the last elected government,” Drew disclosed.

Only the St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party is setting forth a road map for navigating the unpredictable terrain that we will traverse in the next four to six years,” reminded Dr Drew.
