Message from Ms. Dawn Gardener, 1st Vice President on Fathers’ Day 2022

Dawn Gardener

Fathers’ Day, observed annually on every third Sunday in June, is the occasion when all the father figures in our lives are celebrated. These father figures love, protect, nurture, and provide for generations of the young and fragile. Even beyond our homes, there are father figures, in schools, workplaces, halls of worship and sometimes in public spaces that not only safeguard, but would provide life changing examples, that would be etched on their memories for a lifetimes. Such is the extent of fatherhood that is being celebrated on June 19, 2022.

Fathers have been the backbone of society, standing up not only to the needs of the family, but also to societal challenges. In these trying times when Guyana and the rest of the world are resisting the prolonged onslaught of COVID 19 Pandemic and now the scourge of “Monkey Pox,” some have died or suffered divesting family losses or decreases in income or loss of jobs or even a significant mix of these trials, but families continue because of the essence of fatherhood that was implanted into family units, workplaces and relationships that have formed the strength, character and uniting bonds between the cared and those who care. The contribution of fathers in shaping family units and the wider society is therefore considered to be momentous.

Thus, it is indeed a special privilege and opportunity to honour the fathers of this nation and within the membership of the Guyana Public Service Union on this Fathers’ Day. Fathers, you have certainly done this nation proud, amidst the economic turbulence and political divisionism that threaten the stability of our beloved Country, Guyana.

On this “Fathers’ Day, I Value the opportunity provided me to express appreciation to all fathers and father figures for the sacrifices and efforts that have fostered the growth and development of this developing state, Guyana. God’s richest blessings to fathers, today and always.
