$40B in contracts awarded in December

CONTRACTS to the tune of some $40B were awarded so far this month Attorney General and
Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall said.
Nandlall said these capital projects will create employment for thousands of Guyanese and will
help boost the Guyana economy spurring national development.
“This month alone we have 40 billion in capital projects that were already awarded by the
Tender Board. Do you know how many hundreds of jobs that have been created, does the
government have to walk with a camera and photograph every person who is working?” Nandlall
questioned.
He said the current move to slash unemployment is part of the government’s efforts nationwide
to make good President Irfaan Ally’s promise to create some 50,000 jobs during his 5-year
tenure.
“Every single day we are creating jobs for people and we will continue doing this,” the
government Minister said.
Nandlall knocked the outgoing A Partnership for National Unity Alliance For Change
(APNU+AFC) coalition for creating distractions from the government’s successes since attaining
office on August 2 following the very contentious 2020 National and Regional polls.
He blasted the government for allegedly dismissing some 30,000 Guyanese workers between its
May 2015 and August 01 tenure as the administration.
“You have an opposition that is desperate, they have nothing to go on, they have no track record
of success, they left the economy battered, they dismissed 30,000 persons and they gave away
hundreds of state lands. People cannot secure house lots in this country, not one single house lot
did they prepare in their entire five years,” he alleged.

He said the opposition’s brouhaha over the appointment of Ms. Oneidge Walrond as Tourism
Minister is part of the APNU+AFC strategy to deflect from its own poor record of governance
and reverse racism.
“The only thing that they can talk about is race. Listen to them they are accusing us of dismissing
black people. We have an afro Guyanese minister Oneidge Walrond, look what they are doing to
her, trying to throw her out of parliament. They want to take back the money that she would have
earned as MP, is that a party that has Afro-Guyanese interest at heart?” he queried rhetorically.
He continued: “So these people only care about themselves and their family. Look at Brian
Tiwari how much contracts he got under them, look at the ordinary black people who are
contractors what they got? So, these people are just seeking to mislead, but fortunately the
people of Guyana are seeing for what they truly are.”
Nandlall accused the opposition of “blatant lies” for asserting that since August 2 the incumbent
administration has dismissed some 1,000 Afro-Guyanese from their public sector jobs. He also
dismissed as “ridiculous” assertions by the APNU+AFC that the recent treatment of Haitian
nationals was racially motivated.
“Every day it is a ridiculous fight, look at the Haitian matter that they made into a racial issue.
Anyhow, it’s a very sensitive issue and can be twisted and taken out of context and then you are
labelled as a racist,” the Attorney General cautioned.
