30 Children tested positive for COVID in St Cuthbert’s as numbers increases

Thirty children are among the 239 persons tested positive for COVID 19 in St Cuthbert’s
Mission. This is according to the Toshao, Beverly Clenkian, speaking exclusively to
www.aroundtheregions.com
The Toshao pointed out that several of those being tested positive are suffering only mild
symptoms of the disease. She said that the children are at home and is being monitored along
with the others who are positive by the heath team in the community.
Toshao Clenkian described several of those being tested positive as being asymptomatic. This is
where a person’s test is usually laboratory confirmed positive for the virus but shows no
symptoms of the disease. The Toshao stressed that the Council’s idea to test the 1500 residents is
one that they firmly believe will reveal the extent of the disease’s impact. She said that several
persons are eager to be tested as they seek to confirm their status.
“The community has about 1500 residents and I can say that almost everybody wants to be tested
as people want to know if they are positive or not,” she said.
The Toshao also used the opportunity to express thanks and gratitude to several persons who she
said have come forward to assist the community in significant ways. This, she noted came about
after one of the community’s resident and Member of Parliament, who is also Deputy Speaker of
the National Assembly, Lennox Shuman donated eight barrels of fuel, which will result in the
residents not paying electricity for the month.
She related that several persons have also promised to help and the Council welcomes every
donation considering the enormous challenges and difficulties that they are confronted by. “We
welcome whatever assistance and or donation that people want to make, as our community needs
the help and we are truly grateful for same,” Toshao Clenkian said.
The Toshao also disclosed that she and her council remain very thankful for what the Regional
Democratic Council (RDC) Region Four has been doing, pointing out that they have been
assisting the community significantly.
Recently in an interview with, www.aroundtheregions.com Regional Health Officer (RHO), Dr.
Gavinash Persaud disclosed that his department continues to work closely in seeking to alleviate
the situation being confronted in Region Four.
“My team have gone in and we saw the need for us to establish an office there. We are also
looking at how we can set up an isolation centre at one of the schools for persons who are not
adhering to the regulations of the lockdown measures,” Dr Persaud said.
In another section of the media, Minister of Health Frank Anthony had confirmed that two
doctors are now permanently resident in St. Cuthbert’s Mission, working along with the team of
nurses there. Also, over the weekend, a team from the Health Emergency Operations Centre was
sent to the community to teach the people sanitation protocols during COVID-19.
